Q. What is the policy if my child misses the bus?
A: When a child misses the bus to Kid's Club in the afternoon, either the Director or Assistant Director will drive to the school to pick up the child. For some children, missing the bus becomes a chronic problem. If this happens to the same child a second time within a two-month period, the child will have a "service" consequence at Kid's Club. If this happens a third time within a two month period, the child will have a longer "service" consequence at Kid's Club and his/her parents will become involved in finding a solution.

Q: Is Kid's Club open on holidays or school vacation?
A: The KID'S CLUB Program will be closed on all the major holidays and during the December school break. You are not charged tuition for any of these days. If interest warrants, KID'S CLUB will remain open during the February and April vacation weeks. These days are not included in your tuition but a fee of $50 per day will be charged to those wishing to participate that is payable in advance. There will be 1 or 2 field trips during the week at no additional charge. A sign up sheet will be posted for those weeks. Be sure to sign up well in advance if you need coverage; if a minimum sign-up is not obtained by a specified date, the program will not be open.

Q: What type of athletic/outdoor activities do you offer?
A: SHED offers children many forms of physical activities. We have a playground, a sports court, and a beautiful field where the children can play freely outside. We go outdoors daily and offer a mix of free play and teacher driven games and activities.

Q: What types of activities are offered for the older children?
A: The Older Kid's program at Kid's Club (affectionately called the OK Room) is for youth in 5th - 8th grades. The goal of the OK Room is to provide stepping-stones towards going home alone after school. The OK Room offers a slightly different environment meeting the needs of our early adolescents. Materials reflect interests in socializing, studying and exploring. Youth are given additional responsibilities and privileges such as walking or biking from school, using the "back yard" independently and cooking snacks. The OK curriculum offers week-long activities allowing the participants to master new skills, theme days and group games.

Q: What is a typical schedule for my child at Kid's Club?
A:
2:45- 4:00 PM
The Director meets buses from the neighborhood schools at the entrance of the program. Teachers take attendance as the children check in at their "home base" in assigned rooms. This transition time consists of snack choices and free choice in the classroom area, homework time, or outdoor play.

4:00 - 5:30 PM
After a meeting time with their home base teachers, children choose from a menu of special activities or they may choose free play with Kid's Club equipment such as games, blocks, art materials, computers, etc. The special activities may include things such as arts & crafts, science experiments and explorations, cooking, woodworking, puppetry, sports, community guest, and interest clubs.

5:30 - 6:00 PM
Small group activities finish up and children assist in cleaning the areas. As the group size decreases, staff will take their cues from the children on how to spend the remaining time. Opportunities may include stories, music, games, puzzles, computers, homework, or more outside time.

A staff member is available to greet parents and chat informally at the beginning and end of the day. Parents are welcome to visit during program hours.
